I am really excited to have my surgery on Wednesday (10 March 2010). I decided in January to have bypass surgery and I am extremely thankful that I did not have to wait a long time for my surgery to be scheduled. I am so ready to get healthy. I was wondering how long after surgery before other patients were able to return to work?

Congrats! Everyone is different--I had very little pain but soreness. I returned in a week. I feel great with the exception of low energy:) Since I am almost 4 weeks out I am hoping my energy will return soon.

Dr. Mo is my surgeon and I adore him-who is yours?

    Good Luck:)

Wow one week! Did you have banding or bypass? I'm scheduled to be off for 4 weeks and I didn't think that would be long enough. How has your health and weight loss changed since your surgery? Dr. Tran is my surgeon.

Congrats and Good Luck on Wednesday! My health is getting better all the time.I wasn't on any meds but had unhealthy BP levels so med were around the corner. The best thing is I feel lighter and my clothes are too big.In about 6 weeks I've gone from 26/28 to 22s and lost 30 lbs.Best thing is hearing people acknowlege my hardwork. This lifestyle change can seem like a full time job with the supplements, shakes, measuring, etc But,I'm slowing getting into a groove.

    Good Luck!

Good luck DCEHills. How have you been doing on the Optifast. I may have lost 5 lbs, because I have not been able to tolerate the Optifast. I have been trying but as soon as I drink it I throw up. I hope this does not stop me from having my surgery.

McCauley your success is outstanding. Are there any shakes that you really like. I hope that I do not have the problem with them that I am having with Optifast.

  7. Optifast has been difficult. I can tolerate the taste but not the side affects - it just goes right through me. I think there is way too much sugar in them and it affects me.

McCauley which surgery did you have?

    Hi:
    I had gastric RYN:)
Babz:Keep trying with the Optifast!First day I could not tolerate at all and was ready to quit. Luckily, I had my pre-op with surgeon the next day and he said it was ok to switch to Premiere Protein(30 g).So, I did but rather than waste Opti,I tried again and learned to tolerate. I did more Premiere than Opti and lost 18lbs.
Dr. Mo told me from our first meeting the more pre-surg weight you lose and shrink your liver-easier surgery and recovery. Man,was he right!I only used one, maybe 2 pushes of the morphine the first night. I actually had the nurse remove it because I did not need and it made me itch. I wasn't in pain just sore so I took a liquid pain killer at night so I would sleep. Once I came home I switched to OTC Tylenol on occasion.

Are u staying at Fair Oaks? The nurses are awesome:)

Shakes??mmmh? My taste seem to change way too often. I love Premiere but its not 100% whey. But,Dr. Mo so it was fine.
The Unjury chocalate is good, but would not recommend the Strawberry Sorbet.UGH!
Designer Whey from Vitamin Shoppe is tasty.
I usually mix my protein with water as I am not a milk lover. Others have told me they are very good with milk.

Just yesterday,I purchased several new proteins to try. We shall see how that goes.

I am no expert and only 4 weeks out tomorrow but some friendly advice:
Start sipping from the moment you awake
Move things you will need often to higher ground! Bending was a pain the first few weeks. I wish I would have purchased a long handled grabber. I ended up using our long handled BBQ tongs.LOL

Good Luck and please update soon as possible.
