My friends and family are against by-pass surgery, therefore I am not telling any of them. Is there anyone out there that was in an identical situation. Everyone thinks I am fibroid surgery. I am looking forward to getting healthy and did not want any negative talk.

Hiya:
I am so sorry to hear! Just my two cents: Tell someone and ask for their support. I had surgery last Tuesday-and even though my recovery has been amazing...I would have not made it though the entire process with out a great support team....the staff and surgeon at BPS,family, and friends. They are who got me to and helped me stay positive. Please tell someone even if you find a willing ear through support groups. Good luck:)Posted 6 months ago # -
I absolutely hate hearing that... Some people think it is a cop-out! Honestly WHO CARES what anyone thinks. Do YOU want to be healthy... It can CURE high blood-pressure, diabetes and more! Improved mobility - a better quality of life; seriously.
Most people come around. A lot of people simply fear change. I encourage you to tell everyone. I encourage you to feel positive about the process. This is a great step toward the rest of your life.
Best of luck!

My sister wasnt so sure about my surgery until I told her that I needed to do this for me to be around alot longer. Family is always so critical and can be ur biggest obsticle. but i agree u do need support of friends and family it helps alot to have what i called my cheering squad on my side. I did have friends that hit me with the whole cop out bull crap and thats why they arent close friends of mine anymore. Like Sully said who cares what they think its about YOU being healthy and doing this for YOU. If they dont want to see you become healthy and happy then you dont need them at all.. I wish you luck and I hope you get your cheering squad too!

My family was all against the surgery from the beginning. I just had to gently keep reminding them it was my body and my decision. Once they realized I wasn't going to be deterred, they got on baord. As the weight comes off, they really start to appreciate the surgery right long with me!
