Anyone with surgery this week? Have you heard anything about rescheduling or postponing due to the weather? My surgery is scheduled 2/10/10, but I hear the weather is supposed to get bad again Tues & Wed. If you hear anything will you post?

Don't worry just yet! I am scheduled for Tuesday, before the next round of snow. I am hoping by tomorrow afternoon the major roads will be passable. Besides, one would think highways and hospitals paths are priorty.
Try not to worry which could lead to stress eating:)Posted 7 months ago # -
Oh, I'm staying true to the Optifast diet, but DANG I'm really concerned about the snow predicted on Tues & Wed. I'm in N. Springfield, not looking forward to driving in the snow!
Let me know what they say, McCauley!
ThanksPosted 7 months ago # -
OH~ And did I mention that I'm originally from Louisiana and Texas - I DON'T know HOW to drive in snow! LOL!

Did they not put you on a clear diet for 2 days before surgery? Please try not to worry about the snow:)
Posted 7 months ago # -
No clear diet, just the Optifast. Thanks for the sweet words of encouragement!

I did Optifast too. But, Kathie wrote on my paperwork during my nurses interview to go on a clear liquid diet 2 days prior to surgery. Not to sound the alarm(as you said we are all different)you may wanted to revisit your patient responsibilities.
Dr. M is my surgeon..who is yours?
I would so kill(did I really say that) for OPTIFAST. I've had nothing but JELLO,1/2 c. cranberry juice and POPSICLES ALL DAY:( and tons of water
I just cannot bring myself to drink the broth.UGH!Posted 7 months ago # -

I had gastric and so ready 2 go. Thank God my pain is mininmal to zero. The sight is sore but not a on going pain.
The bed is horrible:) All in all no remorse-the nurses have been so incredibly nice. Good luck!Posted 7 months ago # -
Congrats to both of you. Im glad to hear that you both had ur surgeries relatively on time.. i think I would have croaked if mine had been postponed. that waiting for insurance was killer enough.
If you are at potomac hospital I know your in good care. the nurses was awesome when I was there. of course my fave was Aida.. a little tip from me(im bypass 4 months out)WALK WALK WALK.. when u get out the gas pain will be the worst pain. it hurt worse then the sight spots.. those itched more then anything.. but that gas bubble is the worst, and it moves around into the chest and sholders u will think ur dying.. i think i wore my slippers out in the hospital in my 2 days there lol..
best of luck to the both of you!!!

Thanks,Jenine:
Congrats to you! So true about the gas bubbles...I constantly walked the halls at Fair Oaks while there for two days. Yesterday evening when I arrived home I continued to walk and it really help with those bubbles. My pain is well under control, its just that the sight is very sore. The bubbles make me feel like I am working on a crazy chemistry formula inside my belly. Lol
How long before the sorness subsided for you? Curious, I know everyone is different.Take care!

McCauley,
I think my sorness lasted 2 weeks or so. I wasnt taking my pain meds for a few days because it made me break out in hives. who knew! I had the divinci procedure so my cuts are small ones. Now the chemistry formula (i like that analogy lol) that lasted for about a month. sometimes it was painful other times it was kind of embarassing because it would do it when the room was silent haha..
best of luck in your process..

Thanks! Medicine is weird..while at the hospital I wanted off the morphine because I wasn't using and it was making me itch like crazy. I had more bendyrl than morphine. Curious, because I am getting stir crazy and want out--when did you go back to driving? I plan on going super slow when I do because of my stitches and the potholes.

My soreness took 4 weeks to fully go away. I thought the worst part was the bubbles and the bloating! The sounds were so embarrassing I stayed out of public! I was uncomfortable in the car, so I tried to stay close to home. I am such a baby I used both of the prescribed Morphine pumps!!

I think with me I took like a month or more to actually drive, I had my fiance do all the driving. I was having a hard time getting my protein in and was getting dizzy quick. yes now we have alot more new potholes thanks to the snow and ice so be careful when u do venture out. in my first 3 weeks when i went to a store i got the driver carts because walking the store id get extremely dizzy and weak. its a huge process and i guess i thought since i wasnt in pain i could conquor the world. HA! so take ur time in everything u do trust me its well worth it.

Thanks,Ladies: Should I call the doc? I'm 7 days out...Its sore, not pain...I am bloated above my belly button and the left side. I cant remember it being this bloated before yesterday.I have a high pain tolerance and don't want to worry myself about something that is normal. I have quite a bit of burping,BM everyday, some loose stools(TMI),but not a lot back door gas. Advice please...I don't see the doc until Tuesday. Thanks:)

I think that is all really normal. The bloating and all the gas took a good 2 weeks to go away. My stools were loose and smelled HORRIBLE! The left side is the worst for everyone. I even had a "lump" that was from the surgery. All were said to be normal. The main things that need immediate attention are fevers, oozing or open sutures, or dehydration. At least that's what I was told. It is just uncomfortable for about a month. Then, all of the sudden, you wake up and feel better! If you have any questons email me!! troupefamily912@aol.com I had surgery 12/8/09 :o)

Thanks so much!I think I am good to go on all the main things:)The bloat has even gone down since my last post.LOL
I am/can be such a worry wart but I want to be sure and follow to a tee. I am doing so great and don't want anything to mess it up:)Be careful what you offer---LOL
