    Hello everyone!!

Im just about 3 months post-op and STILL struggling with my protein but trying my very best to make a solid attempt. ive lost 80 pounds so far so Im guessing I am doing something right so far. I want to ask however so bypass patients that are "vets" to this some helpful advice tips on food. I have been craving odd things, like chicken alfredo or just a normal turkey & cheese sandwhich. does anybody have any ideas to share that can help me with these cravings? someone helped me with the pizza craving and i have that under control as of now (smile)... Ive talked to out dietician and the famous response is "absolutely no bread, rice, or pasta" and i know bypass patients who eat whole grain wheat bread. are they breaking the rules and being hard headed? I dont want to risk anything.. so here I am asking again for some yummy menus..

    thanks in advance!!

    Hi Jenine!!!

    Couple of ideas-
Chicken Alfredo. Find a receipie for low fat alfredo sauce and you can always doctor the receipie to your likings...even adding unflavored protien powder to the sauce. As for the noodles. I have NEVER made it but have always wanted to. Squash speghetti. People make it noodles from squash.

I personally do eat whole grains. I eat more of flat outs or Arnold Thins. The Arnold Thins did not come until about a year post op. You are about 3 months. I don't think I started introducing the grains until 6 months. But when I did, it was the flat outs. And I don't eat it that often. I have to keep my grains in the fridge so they will not go bad and I waste money. I would use half a flat out and it would fill me up. They even have flat out minis. I would even make my pizza with them yummy. You could even just get some cheese and wrap around the turkey. check out theworldaccordingtoeggface.com She does some wraps on there.

  3. I has my surgery on 12/8, and I have cravings like crazy! My primary care provider says that the cravings most of the time will indicate what nutrient you are lacking. For example, if you are crazing a t-bone steak, you may be needing protein. Likewise, if you are craving french fries and pastas, your body is wanting carbs. Who knows whether or not this is true!

Mandi you are correct to an extent. The carbs I would have to disagree with. Your body gets addicted to simple carbs because it burns so quickly and your blood sugar level drop so you crave it more if you consume it. You will find with this surgery, if you stick with the plan, your cravings will change. I tendto crave protien and complex carbs (like viggies) now. The combanation of protien and complex carbs helps with sustainablity of your blood glucose levels and energy. We need protien and we need carbs to function. But going for the complex carbs like veggies, dairy and whole grains are the best option. Stay away from the simple carbs.
