yes in my first few days i felt like someone had cut my throat and that i hadnt been able to eat in years let alone days.. but once i found out i could eat the pudding it helped. i did cheat one day on my second week but it wasnt as fun as i thought it would be, i ended up eating small portions and felt horrible afterwards. stomach wise and concience wise. but other then that i did follow it. once u get past ill say day 5 u should be good to go. key is to keep drinking fluids. if u eat one meal out this early into it u might have a negative effect cuz u may still want to eat more. by the time i decided to "cheat" my stomach had already shrunk and fooled me thinking i was going to eat a big ole meal one last time before surgery..

I had the gastric bypass.

Hello there..

I went thru that when I was on Optifast. I went on travel to North Carolina to a town surviving on bar b que. the first week is definately the roughest.. in between ur so called "meals" eat sugar free jello or pudding (not alot but one!) and drink lots of water/crystal light. and sugar free popcicles too.. they helped me thru it. by the 2nd week ur stomach has shrunk some and u will find urself almost forcing to get all the shakes in. its worth it i lost 22 pounds in those 2 weeks which helped alot at surgery time.. plus it conditions u to eat less.

good luck!!

I didn't have to do the Optifast, I just had to lose 10 lbs. I know the Optfast must be difficult. Try your best to stick with it. After your surgery you won't have the hunger to deal with. Hang in there...Good Luck!!

Hi,Sweetie:

Pack protein friendly snacks in your purse i.e. nuts worked perfect for me. With my protein shakes, I would freeze them in a water bottle the night before. They would thaw out during the day as we cruised around town. As they thawed I always had some protein to sip throughout the day.

Have a great vacation:)

Hello All,

Next week I will be on summer vacation in florida and I wondering if anyone has any tips on how to survive a vacation and get all of you daily requirements in? I plan to take my nectar protein since that is easy to mix with water, but amusement parks and airports don't usually offer GB friendly food options. Any advise please share.

Hi Leler. Dr. Moazzes is doing my surgery. I have my final appt. to see him on 7/29. I guess I am as ready as I can be. A little nervous, but my sister had GBP 2 years ago and she did fine and does not regret her decision. I'm having the GBP because I'm diabetic and the GBP eliminates diabetes almost immediately in most cases. My sister's diabetes was gone the day after her surgery so I'm really hoping that will be the case with me. Are you having your surgery at Fair Oaks? Are you ready??

I couldnt make up my mind and on our last class Aetna approved the sleeve. I feel like a guinea pig since it hasnt been around here long. Im hoping it goes good, this has been such a long process!!!

Optifast comes in the week or two before your surgery (depending on surgeon, I think). It is a shakes, bars, and soups. You get them when you go to your group meeting which is usually shortly before that. Insurance doesn't pay for them, or mine didn't anyway - pretty sure none of them do.

I need this for my health. I keep hearing about the optifast shakes. Wat is this and where do ya get it? It covered by ins or do we have to buy it somewhere? Any info would be wonderful.

Yes,it would be more convenient in a 5lb tub. I usually buy 2 at a time from Vitamin Shoppe.
I found they are only about $5 less online and then add shipping. Not such a big savings! Also, I like being able to hit the store locally.

Best,
